APPLE NAME PUZZLE: |
We are ready for Fall! Building our names, and piecing them together like a puzzle.
|
Constructing homes: |
We used blocks and teamwork to build Houses. After discussing the different types of homes people live in, and what a home includes. Students were instructed to work as a team to build a house that has: walls, doors, and a roof.

o is for otter: |
Otters are possibly the cutest animals out there, next to puppies. The kiddos enjoyed piecing together, and painting their otter.

Letter r Week: |
Learning about weather, and making rain clouds to go along with our study of letter Rr.
|
letter m for mittens: |
We are getting ready for the cold, winter months by decorating mittens using cotton balls, sequence, and glitter glue.

Letter c graffiti boards: |
The students worked in small groups to create a Graffiti Board for the letter "C". The students were given 3 minutes to come up with, and draw pictures of as many words they could that begin with the letter "C". Some of the words the kiddos came up with are: cat, carrot, cabin, castle, Christmas tree, cupcake, cake, cow, cocoa, cup, cook, and clown!

Letter/number sort: |
The students displayed their knowledge of both letters and numbers by sorting them into 2 different groups. We discussed that letters make words, and numbers represent how much.

To my valentine: |
Creating Valentine's cards is a fun and engaging way to discuss the letter V and practice writing the letters of the alphabet.

color sort: |
Sorting fruit loops based on color to match each letter in our name.
|
number chains: |
Using linking chains to build groups of numbers.
|
number Towers: |
Using linking cubes to build towers of numbers 1-10.
|
Smack that number: |
Number recognition - Miss Koors states a number 1-10. The students use fly swatters to "smack" the number.

Pumpkin Exploration:
|
We got a little festive in the classroom this week. The students measured the height of 5 different Pumpkins using linking cubes. They counted each set of linking cubes, and were able to put the Pumpkins in height order based on the results. The students also measured 'how big around' (circumference) each Pumpkin is using linking chains. They counted the number of chains in each set, and were able to put the Pumpkins in order by how round they are based on the results.

square sort: |
Using foods that are square shaped to sort (i.e. life cereal, graham crackers, starbursts, and cheese itz).
*And YES, they got to eat the treats at the end :). |
BUILD A SQUARE: |
Building with pretzels and marshmallows was perfect for squares. We made a few together, and then mostly just shoveled marshmallows in our mouths :).

What's my shape: |
What better way to learn, and explore shapes than by the Hokey Pokey!
I begin by calling out a shape, such as square: You put your square in. (Hold the square inside the circle.) You put your square out. (Hold the square outside the circle.) You put your square in. (Hold the square inside the circle.) And you shake it all about! (Shake the square.) You do the Hokey Pokey, And you turn yourself around! (Turn around.) That’s what it’s all about! (Clap twice.) As the students demonstrate knowledge of each shape, I describe each shape instead of calling out its name. |
race to fill the cup: |
The objective of this game is to be the first student to fill up his cup. Each student rolls the die, counts the number of dots on the die, and places that many cubes in his cup. This game continues until a student has completely filled his cup.

pipe cleaner counters: |
We used beads and pipe cleaner to demonstrate our ability to count objects. The kiddos strung the correct number of beads onto each pipe cleaner (#1-15).

trouble: |
Who says learning can't be fun? The students are working on number identification and one-to-one correspondence while playing Trouble.

Valentine candy graph: |
The students used a box of Sweethearts to graph them by color. The kiddos then used the graphs to determine which color candy heart had the most, and which had the least.

winter wonderland: |
What better way to introduce our study of winter and snow than by putting together AND decorating snowflakes! The kiddos had a blast individualizing their snowflakes that will be hanging on our classroom door for decoration.

Volcanoes:
|
These kiddos might be the cutest scientists ever! After spending the week talking about the letter V and learning about volcanoes, the students thought it would be fun to create their very own volcano.
